ICE AGE RELICTS: Video order #FV-1008V......................$79.95

LIVING GLACIERS AND SIGNS OF ANCIENT ICE SHEETS

Glaciers, living relicts of the ice age, are still important today. They hold much of
the earth’s fresh water, sculpted much of North America, and promise an early return to
finish their work. Provides a coherent picture of how glaciers work, and what they did. 2
parts, 26 page guide. Video or filmstrips. (Filmstrips order FS-1008F....$59.95.)

LIVING GLACIERS (Part I): Photographed in Antarctica, Greenland, the Rocky
and Sierra Nevada Mountains, and Norway. Introduces glacial mechanics and mass
budgets, the appearance of glaciers, and topographic features caused by mountain
glaciers.

SIGNS OF ANCIENT ICESHEETS (Part II): Introduces the extent, causes and
importance of the Pleistocene glaciation in North America. Especially emphasizes the
signs of former icesheets: moraines, eskers, kames, kettles, and many more. Aerial and
satellite photographs: photos from Wisconsin and Antarctica.

REVIEWS: "I...recommend it highly...a marvelous job...it is a high quality product." G.S.,
Associate Professor of Geography, University of Wisconsin. "We are very pleased with its quality
and content." R.V.O., Ice Age Naturalist, Kettle Moraine State Forest. "Excellent" P.G., Iroquois
Middle School, Schenectady, NY. "...excellent shots." Choice. "well written." Science Books &

GLACIERS AND THEIR TRACKS Slides order #317 ..................$42.50

The effect of Pleistocene glaciation on the earth's surface. Present-day glaciers,
their form, movement and power, illustrated with pictures from the Canadian Rockies.
Discusses the life forms which exist in this environment. 2O slides and guide.

CONTENT SAMPLE: Introduction. Great bodies of ice left over from the Great Ice Age
of the Pleistocene Era, about three million years ago, still cover 10% of the earth’s surface. The
continental glaciers that once covered approximately one half of North America now reside mostly
in Greenland. These vast ice sheets shaped many of the landforms of the northern half of North
America. The Laurentide ice sheet centered in the Hudson Bay area extended 2,500 km (1,600
miles) into the Mississippi Valley, covering about 8,000,000 square km (5,000,000 square miles).
In the west, the Cordilleran ice sheet sprang from the mountains in Canada, extending southward
down the mountain ranges and covering an area of 800,000 square km (480,000 square miles). In
addition, about 70 isolated glacial areas extended as far south as New Mexico.

The most recent continental ice sheet retreated about 10,000 years ago, leaving behind a
legacy of its existence. For example, the Ohio and Missouri rivers changed their courses because
their way was blocked by ice.

Today we are probably in the midst of a warming trend before the advance of yet another
ice sheet. Many "small" glaciers still remain in the Rockies and tell us much about how glaciers
work and the signs they leave of their passage. This presentation focuses on some of them.

ICE & ITS EFFECTS ON THE (EUROPEAN) LANDSCAPE Slides order #011-2116......$49.95
(Special Closeout Pricing--was $69.95)

Ice action has left an indelible mark over much of the Northern Hemisphere. This study
compares the glaciated landscape of the Alps with the post-glacial landscape of Western Britain.
Equally useful to geography students! 4O slides and guide.

EARTH, ICE, FIRE AND WATER Slides order #011-2085 ...........$99.95
(Special Closeout Pricing--was $250.00)

A very comprehensive program that illustrates aspects of geology using
examples from the field, elaborated by photos from museum specimens. Ranges from
Greenland to Antarctica, covers a wide range of geological structures and processes,
shows many specimens of common rock types. The most complete program of its kind.
Ideal for teachers with limited facilities for field work. 16O slides /4 cassettes/4 extensive
guides.

Four parts: EARTH--geological structures. FIRE--igneous activity and its
products. ICE--glaciers and glacial features. WATER--sedimentary environments and
sedimentary rocks.
